Sr. Human Resources Generalist
Senior HR Generalist (Remote)
Location: Remote (California-based and/or prior California experience required)
Company: SBI-WY, LLC (Supercuts Franchisee)
Salary Range: $100,000 – $110,000 annually
About the Role
SBI-WY, LLC is seeking a hands-on and experienced Senior HR Generalist to lead HR operations for a multi-state workforce of 300+ employees. This is a standalone role ideal for someone who thrives in tactical environments and is comfortable owning the full spectrum of HR.
As the primary HR partner to leadership and field operations, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance, strengthening employee relations, and building scalable HR processes that support continued growth. This position requires deep expertise in California employment law and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
What You’ll Do
Compliance & Wage and Hour
- Serve as a subject matter expert on California wage and hour laws (meal/rest breaks, overtime, split shifts, premium pay)
- Partner with payroll providers to audit payroll practices and wage statements
- Proactively identify and mitigate compliance risks, including exposure to penalties and claims
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment regulations
Employee Relations & Investigations
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee relations across multiple locations
- Conduct thorough, well-documented workplace investigations
- Coach managers on performance management and employee relations best practices
- Maintain accurate documentation to support compliant resolutions
Leave of Absence & Workers’ Compensation
- Administer leave programs (FMLA, CFRA, PDL, and others)
- Manage workers’ compensation cases with external partners
- Ensure compliant tracking, communication, and return-to-work processes
Talent Acquisition & Employee Lifecycle
- Support full-cycle recruiting, including job postings, screening, and offer coordination
- Partner with managers to prioritize hiring needs and ensure timely recruitment
- Oversee onboarding and ensure compliance with new hire requirements
- Manage offboarding, including final pay compliance and separation documentation
HR Systems, Benefits & Reporting
- Maintain and audit HRIS data (Paylocity preferred)
- Administer employee benefits, including open enrollment and vendor coordination
- Support HR audits, including 401(k)
- Conduct compensation and classification reviews
Training & Policy Implementation
- Roll out and enforce HR policies and programs
- Train managers on compliance topics (leaves, harassment prevention, wage & hour, safety programs)
- Identify capability gaps and provide practical tools and coaching
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 5–8+ years of progressive HR experience across multiple functions
- Experience supporting multi-location or field-based workforces
- Strong knowledge of California employment law (Arizona knowledge a plus)
- Proven experience conducting workplace investigations
- Experience supporting hourly, non-exempt populations (retail, hospitality, or salon preferred)
- Hands-on experience with HRIS/payroll systems (Paylocity preferred)
Skills
- Strong judgment with the ability to assess risk and provide practical solutions
- Excellent organization, documentation, and communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Confident in coaching and influencing frontline managers
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar certification preferred
Additional Requirements
- Must be based in California or have significant experience with California employment law
- Ability to travel as needed (Northern CA, Southern CA, Arizona)
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Ability to bend, reach, climb, and navigate tight spaces as needed
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs
